REDLANDS, Calif. – Three Beavers from the Men's Track and Field Team made their way over to the University of Redlands for the Redlands Invitational on March 14, and put forth impressive hurling performances in the discus and hammer throw, culminating in a new school record as a result.
Daniel Amelinez-Robles (Madison, Wis. / Vel Phillips Memorial) competed in the hammer throw and launched a historic 50.69m throw for the longest hammer throw in Caltech history, earning sixth place out of 21 entrants. His throw bested the previous record by nearly a full meter, which was his own 49.74m record-setting throw at Caltech's home meet just a couple weeks prior.
Fellow Beavers Luke Lamintina (Pittsburgh, Penn. / Winchester Thurston) and
Ezra Johnson (Columbus, Ohio. / Columbus Academy) threw alongside Amelinez-Robles. Lamintina placed 11th with a result of 41.25m, and Johnson followed right behind in 12th, throwing for 40.22m.
Johnson also competed in discus, ending the day ranked seventh out of 22 competitors. A quality 38.10m throw carried him to the result.
Caltech Track and Field will see a short break before their next competition on March 28 at the Mangrum Invitational in San Marcos, Calif. Then, SCIAC competition returns the next day, March 29 at Whittier College in the SCIAC QuadCup #2.
