Caltech Baseball showed several encouraging individual performances and moments of execution during its April 17–18, SCIAC series against Pomona-Pitzer, highlighted by timely hitting, productive situational at-bats, and flashes of offensive momentum.
Caltech's strongest offensive stretch of the series came in the opening game of the April 18 doubleheader, when the Beavers executed well in key situations late in the contest.
In the third inning, senior Mark Hu (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) delivered a productive plate appearance, lifting a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home a run.
Caltech continued to build on that approach late in the game. In the seventh inning, junior Kailen Hargenrader (Bethesda, Md. / The Maret School) sparked a rally with a double to left-center field, advancing to third and driving in a run. Moments later, Hu followed with an RBI single through the left side, finishing the inning with another run scored and showcasing the lineup's ability to string together quality at-bats under pressure.
Senior Brendan Flaherty stood out in the April 18 finale with a perfect day at the plate, recording two hits in two at-bats, including a double.
