(Win Vacated by NCAA Committee on Infractions)
PASADENA, Calif. – Grayson Chadwick put home a bicycle kick directly off a Tyler Hannasch corner kick in the 60th minute to lead Caltech to a 1-0 victory over LaSierra Monday afternoon at Caltech's North Field in a non-conference soccer match-up.
"I've tried it in practice but never in a game. The ball was a little behind me so I couldn't get a header on it. It was pretty much the best goal I ever scored," the senior captain said. "It feels good to get the victory and hopefully we can get at least one more win before our season ends." (See Goal Below) (Video Only)
Though the first half was scoreless, each team had solid opportunities to find the back of the net. The Eagles had a goal nullified 10 minutes into the contest because of an offside call. Near the end of the first half Caltech (2-13) had their best scoring chance when Jonathan Yeung had a shot from five yards out blocked in front of the net by a LaSierra (8-7-2) defender.
In the second frame neither team put a shot on goal until Chadwick's goal. The Eagles had their best chance for the equalizing goal with just over five minutes left when David Nolan put a shot on goal from 10 yards but Marcus Lucas made the save but left a rebound out in front. However, Lucas made a save off of the rebounded shot by Jose Moreno to preserve the lead. Those were the final two shots either team had in the game.
The contest was close throughout as both teams had 13 total shots and 13 total fouls as well. Caltech had a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Lucas made four saves to post his second victory of the season.
