Box Score PASADENA, Calif. – Eastern Connecticut State converted 15
of their 26 field goals attempts (57.7 percent) in the second half
en route to a 72-49 win over Caltech on Sunday afternoon.
It was the second game of the CMS/Caltech SCIAC men's basketball
Winter Classic. In the first game of the day, CMS beat
Wisconsin-Lutheran 68-53. The four-team, two-day event concludes
tomorrow at CMS with Caltech playing Wisconsin-Lutheran at 6:00
p.m. and CMS hosting Eastern Connecticut State in the opening
contest at 4:00 p.m.

During the first 10 minutes of the game there were four ties and
three lead changes. With the scored knotted at 11-11 and 9:26 left
until the halftime buzzer, Eastern Connecticut State (8-2) grabbed
the game's momentum. The Warriors went on a 12-2 scoring spree in
taking a 23-13 lead with 4:54 left in the half. Eastern Connecticut
pushed their lead to 31-18 as the two teams went into the locker
room.
The Warriors built their lead to 41-25 with 16:36 left in the
game before Caltech (3-7) charged back. A Todd Cramer lay-up
with 13:49 remaining brought the Beavers deficit down to 43-36.
However, Eastern Connecticut State built their lead back to double
figures by scoring 12 of the game's next 14 points. Caltech was
able to get within 55-44 with 4:40 left but couldn't draw any
closer.
Ryan
Elmquist had a game high 24 points to pace the Caltech
offense. It was the fourth time this season the SCIAC's
leading scorer has scored at least 20 points in a game. The senior
also had a game high three blocks.
Cramer pitched in 12 points and a team high six rebounds while
Mike Edwards
rounded out the double figure scores for the Beavers with an
11-point evening.
Jamie Kohn had a team high 18 points and game high 13 rebounds
for the visitors in the winning effort.
