PASADENA, Calif. – The Caltech men's water polo team found the back of the net a season high 14 times but Chapman's offensive was strong as well in the Panthers 28-14 victory.
The 14 goals represented the second most scored during fourth year head coach Josh Moser's tenure. During the 2010 season, the Beavers tallied 17 in a game against Washington & Jefferson.
"We clicked on a lot of things we have been working on in practice. It's always nice to see hard work come together," Moser said. "I am really proud of the effort we play with tonight. The guys competed hard from the start."
After trading the game's first four goals, the Panthers scored four straight to go up 6-2 with 2:50 left in the first period. The Beavers put goals on the board in back-to-back possession by Daniel Sexton and Jack Blackwood to cut their deficit to 6-4 after eight minutes.
Chapman, who came into the contest ranked sixth in the most recent NCAA Division III coaches poll, grabbed momentum by scoring three unanswered goals to start the second period in taking a 9-4 edge. Caltech kept the score close with three second period goals but the Panthers won the period 8-3 as the visitors went up 14-7 at the intermission.
