RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- La Sierra broke open a tight contest with three second half goals in defeating Caltech 4-0 on Thursday evening in a non-conference men's soccer match-up.
Edgar Padilla scored the game's first goal in the 32nd minute. It was the only goal in the opening 45 minutes of action. During the first half, Caltech goalie Wesley Swank turned away seven shots to keep the Beavers in the contest.
The Golden Eagles upped their advantage to 2-0 when Luis Escamilla took a pass from Diego Fontes in the game's 50th minute. Less than eight minutes later, Kenny Bonanken gave the home squad a three-goal advantage when he found the back of the net from a Shane Shelton feed.
La Sierra added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Henry Sierra scored the final tallying of the contest.
The Beavers put five shots on goal but Gabriel Esqueda saved all of them to earn the shutout. Swank thwarted 11 of the 15 shots he faced.
La Sierra held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
