Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WHITTIER, CA – The Beavers dropped a SCIAC road doubleheader on Saturday to Whittier.

Game 1 – Whittier 14, Caltech 3 (Box Score)

The Beavers kept Whittier within striking distance despite giving-up runs in two of the first three innings. Down just 3-0 after three innings, Caltech got on the board when Tim Menniger, who doubled to start the inning, scored on a balk in the fourth inning.

Whittier responded by scoring four runs in the bottom half of fourth inning. The home team put the game out of reach with a seven-run fifth inning. Caltech was able to plate a pair of runs in the seventh inning as Albie Lavin and Derek Kearney crossed the plate but they couldn't muster anymore offense.

Menninger put together a two-hit game in his three at-bats. Oliver Curtiss, Thomas Kwok and Kearney each banged out a base knock.

On the mound Curtis Martin earned the winning by going the whole way. He struck out eight and gave-up five hits to earn the win.

Stephen Zavala went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and four RBI's to pace the Poet offense.

Game 2 - Whittier 16, Caltech 1 (Box Score)

Daniel Chou, Derek Kearney, Harrison Jacobs and Ryan Casey each had a hit for the Beavers. Jacobs crossed the plate on an Oliver Curtiss groundout in the fifth inning.
