Five members of Caltech Baseball have been given Academic-All District recognition by College Sports Communicators.
Seniors Brendan Flaherty (Narragansett, R.I. / Lake Forest Academy), Mark Hu (San Jose, Calif. / The Harker School) and Sayuj Choudhari (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) joined juniors Arjun Pradhan (Marietta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) and Kailen Hargenrader (Bethesda, Md. / The Maret School) in receiving the accolade. Each player qualified for a spot on the prestigious list by maintaining a 3.8 Caltech GPA while also competing in a required number of games during the collegiate baseball season.
Flaherty double-majors in Computer Science and Business, Economics and Management. He will be working as a quantitative trader in Chicago post-graduation.
Pradhan is an Electrical Engineering major. Some of his current classes include Fundamentals of Information Transmission and Storage (EE160) and Advanced Topics in Machine Learning (CS 159). Pradhan is also the Tech Portfolio Manager for the Caltech Student Investment Fund.
Hargenrader is a Computer Science major. His current classes include Deep Learning and GPU programming. He is doing work automating how to refine instructions given to AI for peak performance on tasks like math and coding. Additionally, Hargenrader teaches language models how to reason about videos in addition to his other STEM-related activities.
Five is the maximum number of Academic All-District recipients allowable for a single collegiate baseball team, and this is the fourth consecutive year that Caltech has produced that many honorees. Flaherty and Hu were each named to the Academic All-District list last season, while the other recipients are first-time honorees.
