Redlands, Caltech Play Three

REDLANDS, CA –The Beaver nine continued SCIAC play with a three-game series against the University of Redlands.

The Bulldogs hosted the opener on Friday then Caltech welcomed the Redlands for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Game One - Redlands 15, Caltech 2 (Box Score)

The University of Redlands pounded out 13 hits and scored a run in each inning they came to the plate in posting a 15-2 win.

Max Hardman led the hit parade for the home team as he went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Christopher Scalisi put together a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored while driving in two more.

Daniel Chou and Tim Menninger both went 1-for-3 at the plate with each of them scoring a run. Derek Kearney and Albie Lavin also had hits for the Beavers.

Josh Markler gave-up one hit and struck out eight to earn the win on the mound.

The teams played a doubleheader on Saturday at Caltech beginning at 11 a.m.

Game Two - Redlands 17, Caltech 6 (Box Score)

In the opening game on Saturday, Redlands banged out 21 hits and scored 17 runs. The visitors jumped out to a 12-1 lead after five innings. However, Caltech responded by scoring five runs in the sixth inning to cut their deficit in half.

The Beavers comeback was not to be as the Bulldogs scored solo runs in the seventh and eighth innings respectively before tacking on three more in the ninth.

Kyle Wallau had a four-hit day for the Redlands. The catcher also drove in four runs while scoring twice to pace the offense. Nathan Bowker and Jordan Dresner each had three hits.

Derek Kearney had a team best two hits for the Beavers while Ryan Casey drove home three runs with a down line double in Caltech's sixth inning.

Game Three - Redlands 13, Caltech 1 (Box Score)

In the second game Tim Menninger kept the Bulldogs at bay during the early innings. However, the Redlands bats came to life in the fourth inning. Already leading 2-0 they grew their lead from 7-0 by the inning's end. 

Redlands plated two more runs in the fifth inning then another in the sixth as they went up 10-0. Caltech crossed the plate in the sixth inning when Daniel Chou scored from a productive Derek Kearney at-bat.

In the seventh inning the Bulldogs sealed the win with three more runs.

Connor Hancock and Ryan Franklin each went 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs. Hancock scored four times and drove in two while Frankin scored twice and drove in two another two. 

Ryan Casey and Thomas Kwok each had two hits for the home team.
