PASADENA, Calif. (Apr. 26, 2015) – Freshman David Watson (Fort Collins, Colo. / Windsor) batted .500 with three hits as the Caltech baseball team finished its road slate with games at the University of Redlands and Cal Lutheran University on Saturday and Sunday.

The Beavers came up short in both games, falling 18-0 to Redlands and 13-1 at Cal Lu, to drop to 2-34 overall and 0-27 in the SCIAC.

Saturday: Caltech 0, Redlands 18 (7 inn.)

The Bulldogs plated their first run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning before breaking out with four in the second and seven in the third.  Senior Oliver Curtiss (Hudson, Ohio / Western Reserve Acad.) became the Beavers' first base runner with a leadoff walk in the top of the third, but was erased by a double play.  Watson picked up Caltech's first hit of the game with a leadoff single in the top of the fifth, but a pair of strikeouts and shallow fly out to centerfield kept him from advancing. 

Redlands added another run in the fourth, three more in the fifth and two final runs in the sixth to end the game early, but not before sophomore Chris Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) led off the top of the sixth with a double, although he was caught on a double-play lineout trying to advance to third. 

Sunday: Caltech 1, Cal Lutheran 13 (7)

The Kingsmen exploded for seven runs in the first inning, but Curtiss settled down to hold them scoreless over the next two.  Bradley was the Beavers' first base runner in the top of the third as he reached on an error, but with two outs would go no further.  Caltech got on the board in the next inning, though, as sophomore Harrison Jacobs (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and came home on a sacrifice fly by junior Dylan Schultz. 

CLU picked up another run on a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth inning, scored two more in the fifth and the necessary three in the sixth to shorten the game.  Freshmen Garrett Levine (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Acad.) and Watson provided a brief glimmer of hope for the Beavers to score again in the top of the seventh, with the third baseman leading off with a single and the first baseman later doubling with two outs, but a double play erased Levine from the base paths and a groundout ended the day.

Head Coach Matthew Mark and the Beavers will close out the season at home on Tuesday, Apr. 28 at 3:00 p.m. as they host Chapman University (22-16, 15-12).
