Box Score

PASADENA, Calif. (Nov. 10, 2021) – Caltech men's water polo hosted the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen Wednesday and, despite only having one substitute player on the bench, managed to net 12 goals for the highest total of the season against a SCIAC opponent.

Junior Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview) put the Beavers on the board in the first quarter, quickly capitalizing on a CLU exclusion. Bricken caught fire in the second half and racked up a total of six goals in the game, also picking up a steal. Sophomore Perry Samimy (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades) also contributed a six-point game with five goals and one assist, and nabbing two steals from the Kingsmen.

Freshman Sean Zheng (San Marino, Calif. / Polytechnic School) racked up a team-high three assists in addition to a goal and a steal while starting goalie Wei Foo (Hacienda Heights, Calif. / Troy) made seven saves before playing the field in the fourth quarter, also picking up a steal and an assist.

After the game, Head Coach Jon Bonafede voiced his praise for the team's defense in the second half, as well as the offense's success in executing set pieces after calling timeouts. He pointed out how the quality of water polo play tends to improve as the season progresses, and the Beavers' ability to hang with some difficult opponents impressed him greatly, especially considering there are no seniors on the roster.

Caltech wraps up the regular season at home on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. against Chapman University.
