Dalfonzo, Litvin Named to All-SCIAC Track & Field Teams

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — Juniors Sophie Dalfonzo and Joey Litvin of the Caltech track & field programs earned 2023 All-SCIAC recognition, the conference announced on Tuesday. The two athletes received the distinction for finishing in the top-three in their races at the SCIAC Championship Meet.

Dalfonzo registered a historic day at the championships as she posted not one, but two impressive second-place performances. Day 1 saw Dalfonzo compete in the 10,000-meter race, where she finished with a time of 37:12.78. The junior returned on Day 2 for the 5,000-meter race, where she put up a personal-record time of 17:53.49.

Dalfonzo earned the 10K school record earlier in the season after running a 36:59.04 at the Bryan Clay Invite. One week after the conference meet, the star broke the program's 5K record, toppling the existing mark with a blazing time of 17:37.11.

Litvin also earned All-SCIAC recognition this season after running an exceptional race in the men's 10,000-meter championship. The race saw the junior put himself in the Caltech record books, as he earned a 31:06.83 to not only grab third place, but also break the school record. The previous 10K record at Caltech had stood for 49 years.
