Edwards Named First Team All-Conference

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. — Junior guard-forward Kathryn Edwards of the Caltech women's basketball team received 2023-24 First Team All-Conference honors on Wednesday, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced. This is the second straight year in which Edwards achieved First Team recognition.

The Centennial, Colorado native recorded a monumental junior season as she led the team to nine wins, including six versus conference opponents. The star made history as she surpassed 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

Among all SCIAC players in conference play, Edwards ranked first in blocks (1.2 per game), second in steals (2.9/g), third in points (18.8/g), eighth in rebounding (8.5/g) and ninth in field goal percentage (.420).

The standout earned a career-high 34 points on Jan. 27 as she led the group to an impressive 69-64 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. She reached 13 rebounds in a game two different times.

Edwards finished the season with six double-doubles.

Head coach Annie Tarakchian was proud of how highly the star performed in her third year.

"Katy is one of the fiercest competitors I've ever met," said Tarakchian. "Every accolade she's achieved this year, from her 1000 points & 500 rebounds to her back-to-back first team all-conference titles, have been with great grit and grace," she said.

"She leads this team with everything she's got, and we are surely excited to see what's in store for her final season."

Edwards will return in 2024-25 as she takes on her senior year.
