PASADENA, Calif. - Caltech women's water polo faced No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Wednesday night at Braun Pool to begin a nine-game stretch against current top 10-ranked opponents.
The Beavers had a strong showing between the pipes from both senior Mahi Ravi (Mountain View, Calif. / Saratoga) and sophomore Cecilia Moxley (San Diego, Calif. / Canyon Hills). Ravi stopped five shots on 12 attempts, while Moxley saved four on 12 shots. Caltech's nine saves are the most in a game this season.
Seniors Mia Mutadich (London, U.K. / Notting Hill and Earling) and Maya Dickson (Atlanta, Ga. / North Atlanta) recorded the tallies for the Beavers. Dickson added to her team-leading assist total as well. She has eight helpers in seven games. Mutadich's spin-around backhand shot in the first quarter increased her goal total to a team-leading 16.
First-year Kylin Elliott (Hood River, Ore. / Hood River Valley) was a defensive standout for Caltech yet again. After nabbing five steals last game, she stole four balls from CMS Wednesday night.
The Beavers take the road Friday, March 6 for the Convergence Tournament hosted by Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif. Caltech confronts No. 7 Austin College at 11:30 a.m., followed by No. 10 Carthage College.
The Beavers already faced Austin College and had an impressive offensive showing in a 14-21 defeat in its season opener. Mutadich and Dickson each had four goals in the contest.
