GREENSBORO, N.C. — Senior
Will Dembski of the Caltech baseball team earned 2023 All-Region honors on Tuesday, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Dembski was named to the All-Region Second Team by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee for his exceptional play throughout this past season.
Dembski posted phenomenal numbers at the plate this year, closing the campaign with a .404 batting average after connecting on 59 hits in his 146 at-bats. He recorded 30 RBIs on the season to go with six stolen bases; he reached a .705 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .511. The star played in all 39 of the Beavers' contests.
In addition to his bat, the senior recorded 120 put-outs with just three errors while playing primarily in center field. He recorded a 2-0 record on the mound, sporting an ERA of 3.60 in his ten innings pitched.
It was a historic year for Dembski in terms of program achievements, which saw him tie his own single-season home run record (10), as well as set the single-season runs record (43). The Iowa native smashed the previous runs record of 29, set by himself in 2022.
The slugger also broke the career home runs record, with 20 — a number achieved after playing in just two full seasons of baseball due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dembski's 59 hits were the second-most in a single season in Caltech history, second only to teammate and fellow senior
Jack Warren, who set the record with 61 hits this spring.
The All-Region selection is one of a few prestigious honors for Dembski; he earned
First Team All-SCIAC and
Academic All-District recognition earlier this month before being named Caltech's
Sportsperson of the Year, as voted on by fellow student-athletes, and Caltech's
Athlete of the Year, as voted on by the department.
Dembski plans to work as a software engineer at Epic Systems after graduation.
