GREENWOOD, Ind. — Nine Caltech student-athletes have received Academic All-District Cross Country/Track & Field recognition for 2023-24, College Sports Communicators (CSC)
announced on Tuesday.
Senior
Joey Litvin (Ardmore, Pa. / Lower Merion) joined juniors
Rohun Agrawal (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista),
Miles Jones (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo),
Thomas MacLean (Redding, Calif. / Shasta) and
Jadon Hale (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) on the Men's Academic All-District List while senior
Katy Chu (Los Gatos, Calif. / Saint Francis) along with juniors
Emily Hu (Vancouver, B.C. / Crofton House),
Sophie Dalfonzo (Fair Haven, N.J. / Biotechnology & Rumson-Fair Regional) and sophomore
Gigi Pistilli (Portola Valley, Calif. / Woodside) were named to the women's team.
The nine Beavers were awarded the prestigious accolade for achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher while either ranking in the top-50 in the region in a track event or posting a top-50 individual performance at the
2023 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships. Only sophomores and above were eligible.
All nine Caltech student-athletes named to the All-District played a major role in the success of either the cross country or track & field teams, or both.
Litvin finished 16th in the region at the Cross Country Regional Champs before ranking 17th in the region for the 10000-meters (31:28.71), 20th for the 5000m (14:45.99) and 35th in the 1500m (3:57.75) this past track season. Agrawal nabbed an exceptional sixth-place performance at the Cross Country Regional Champs before ranking fourth in the region for the 5K (14:12.80,
school record) and eighth for the 10K (30:33.34,
school record) this past spring. Jones ran the 32nd-fastest 5K time in the region (14:55.45); in the 10K, he ranked 44th (32:47.32) while MacLean was 46th (32:53.77). Hale represented the throwers for Caltech after posting the 23rd-best hammer throw result in the region (42.32m, 138' 10").
Chu ranked 18th in the region for the 10K (38:56.67) while also putting in the 23rd-best performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:41.80,
school record) while Hu was 15th in the hammer throw (42.07m, 138' 0"). Dalfonzo led the way for the Institute at the Cross Country Regional Championships with a 38th-place performance; this past track season, she ranked 17th in the 10K (38:45.20) and 46th in the 5K (18:35.55). Pistilli took 50th at the XC Regional Meet before ranking 10th in the region for 10K (37:54.13) and 19th for 5K (17:53.53).
Caltech will return a number of significant distance runners for the cross country season this fall before the track & field campaign kicks off in 2025.
