NEW ORLEANS — Junior
Rohun Agrawal (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) of the Caltech men's track & field team has earned All-Region honors for the 2024 season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Friday.
Agrawal received the high honor for posting a time in the 5,000-meters that put him in the top-five among all athletes in the Div. III West Region this season.
The standout ran that superb time at the Bryan Clay Invitational
this past April, crossing the line in 14 minutes and 12.80 seconds to break his own school record of 14:23.33, set one month earlier. The distance specialist finished the season at No. 4 in the region for the 5K.
This is the first Track & Field All-Region nod for Agrawal, who nabbed Cross Country All-Region honors for the second time this past fall after
finishing sixth out of 172 at the West regional meet. He
finished runner-up out of 131 athletes at the SCIAC Cross Country Championship Meet, resulting in
All-SCIAC recognition.
The star received Track & Field All-SCIAC distinction last month after he
finished third at the conference meet in the 10,000-meters with a time of 30:42.17. Earlier in the year, he
broke the 10K school record after running a blazing 30:33.34, ultimately landing him eighth in the region for the distance.
It was the third school record this season for the junior, who began his 2024 campaign with a 3,000-meter school record
back in February as he recorded a lightning time of 8:29.88 at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet.
To cap off his historic season, the Cupertino native
won Co-Athlete of the Year at Caltech Athletics' Student-Athlete Celebration this past Sunday.
The record-breaker will now rest and recover before preparing for the cross country season in the fall.
