BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Senior Emma Gurcan (Istanbul, Turkey / Lincoln HS) of Caltech Women's Water Polo received 2024 All-America Honorable Mention honors on Tuesday, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced.

The prestigious award is presented "to water polo athletes who exhibit immense talent in the pool, provide leadership, and have helped build and advance the sport." Student-athletes are selected by ACWPC-member coaches.

This is the second straight All-America nod for Gurcan, who was named Honorable Mention in 2023. This year's high recognition comes after the star picked up First Team All-SCIAC and SCIAC Character Award honors in April – her second straight year of All-Conference distinction.

Gurcan posted a brilliant 2024 season, ranking highly among the SCIAC in the per-game lists; during conference play, she was second in steals (2.1/g) and tied for second in points (4.2/g) in addition to ranking fourth in assists (1.7/g) and sixth in goals (2.5/g).

The senior wraps up her accomplished career with a number of school records, graduating as the all-time leader in exclusions drawn (219) and single-season exclusions drawn (91, this season). The standout also graduates with the single-game exclusions drawn record (nine). The attacker additionally broke the career steals record, finishing with 124; she scored 116 goals over her career with 57 assists.

Gurcan's outstanding career marks were reached in just three years of play as no athletics were held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The senior was one of just 32 student-athletes named to a ACWPC Div. III All-America team this spring.
