2024-25 Caltech Women’s Basketball Set High Standard

Caltech Women's Basketball racked up a plethora of achievements during the 2024-25 season, and shattered an all-time program record in the process.

Individually, senior Kathryn Edwards (Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe) dominated offensively in her final season. Edwards led all Beaver scorers with 356 points. In so doing, she broke the all-time program record for career points with 1483. She recorded a remarkable seven double-doubles last season and Caltech lost only one of the five games in which she scored 20 points or more.

Caltech Women's Basketball, however, was not a one-woman show in 2024-25. Edwards was supported by the likes of senior Kadie Vondra (Livingston, Mont. / Park) and first-year Carolyn Ruan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monte Vista). Vondra turned defense into offense with her team-leading 67 steals, while Ruan spread the floor offensively with her .382 clip from the arc, the highest of any Beaver.

As a team, Caltech fed off the home crowd with a 9-5 record inside Braun Gymnasium. It started the year on a tear, winning four of its first five games, all of them at home. That streak included blowouts against Bethesda and Nelson, but also a 66-65 nailbiter against Ottawa (AZ). The diversity in winning scorelines demonstrated the Beavers' ability to maintain focus regardless of the scoreboard.

The close game against Ottawa may have well have paid dividends later in the season, as The Beavers' first SCIAC victory also came in a close game at home against Occidental on Jan. 20. La Verne brought its best against the Beavers in Caltech's second SCIAC home game, and the Institute again showed composure, narrowly prevailing in a 57-55 win. Caltech swept the season series with La Verne, beating the Leos by three points on the road on Feb. 15. That victory came on the heels of a five-point victory against the formidable Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer at Caltech Feb. 12 and was followed by a noteworthy defeat of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Feb. 17, rounding out the Beavers' conference victories.

After proving themselves to be a team to be reckoned with last season, the Beavers will have their eyes on the postseason heading into 2025-26. Keep an eye out for a full schedule release later this summer.
